meet a misfit: sandra

My Name is Sandra, I am a human being, based in Hong Kong now for 8 years (I don’t really feel like diving into my story as I feel my current story is at a standpoint, no point in diving into that)

I first became aware of Misfit.. probably over 10 years ago? When one of my really good friend Ale invited me to go to Misfit for a fusion class led by Amber. I was immediately drawn by Amber’s very unique choice of playlist and sensual way of moving and cueing. It was very primal, feminine and genuine. The way she cues and communicates with the class is something I have never experienced before, and I have experienced lots of different styles of movement and teachers around the world. I was hooked from the first class and really admired Amber, not only as a fellow creative OCAD alumni, but the way she was able to connect with the class, it was clear that she taught from her heart and soul.

Despite being based in HKG, whenever I came back to visit, I would always make sure I make my way to her studio to check in, with myself and give her a heartfelt hug and a quick catch up. I feel that Amber and I always connected, despite not really knowing each other too well (probably because I wasn’t based in Toronto and as with life, things get busy) but the times we do make to catch up and connect, it was always truthful and authentic and I value Amber as a true friend, and definitely one of the good ones (they are so rare in this fast pace often Instagram filtered world).

Favourite class would be Fusion, as I feel that is something that was carefully curated by Amber, it was unique, original and spicy. And I always feel better after, no matter how many times I have done it, how long between classes, I always connect to it wholeheartedly. I always appreciate the movements that require big lateral unique movements with the whole body. There is a sense of release and calmness/comfort after.

Currently, I try to get out in nature as much as I can, as HKG is known to be a concrete jungle, so whenever I can, I take my movement outside. I am not on the mat as much as I would like, but I do make the time to move 2-3 times a week with the Tracy Anderson Method. I have taken a bit of a break from Misfit for the past few months, but once I am done with my subscription with TA, rest assure, I will come back.

I look forward to moving and reconnecting with Amber and the Misfit Method soon!! Xoxoxox
